The Artist tells the story behind this Intuitive Painting: "It was Sunday morning after the Wellness and Spirit Fair in Sheboygan, WI. My phone rang and I was asked to come to the hospital by the family members of Jeremy Petit. Jeremy was on life-support. "You can feel things and we want you to come before we take him off the machine." his sister Heather said. I told her I had been planning to stop on my way home. This family meant a lot to me and we had a long history together. When I got to the hospital family and friends were gathered in the Intensive Care waiting room. I was lead into a dimly lit room. Lying on the bed with his head wrapped in stark white bandages was Jeremy. I set my paints and brushes bag on the floor out of the way. I walked to the bed and took his hand. We were left alone and I closed my eyes. I saw a yellow heart with the top portion off the page. Don't ask me how I know it was off the page without seeing a paper, but I knew. Then I saw deer horns encompass the bottom portion of the heart as though holding it up. The deer and snow appeared. I got overwhelmed with emotion and I questioned this half of the vision, knowing this scenario of the deer and falling snow was a part of reality and what I saw etched in my head from the drive down. It reminded me of this real deer when I first found out about Jeremy's accident while on the road to the faire. It was early morning, still dark out and snowing heavily. I had just gotten off the phone with Heather and was praying for the family and crying. Then I thought of Jeremy I felt at peace. Around the next curve straight in front of me was the biggest horns I had ever seen on a live deer. It looked at me suspended in the moment, then turned and ran, disappearing in the falling snow. I wondered at the time if it was a sign from Jeremy and I knew I would paint it someday. I continue on lost in my sorrow and set for long drive to the fair.
Bringing my thoughts back to the present, I now stood next to Jeremy's bed and I questioned it in my language with God. How could I paint it? Were my own thoughts and memories getting in the way at this critical time? "No," I was told. It will be O.K. just explain the deer to them. I was so calm. It was unbelievable! I picked up my bag, walked out through the door and into the waiting room of maybe 16 or 20 people. Some of the family members helped me clear off a spot on a desk. I readied my paints and brushes and began to shake uncontrollably and while painting I reassured everyone watching the shaking couldn't be helped because the emotions everywhere near me were too strong. I just painted through the body tremors until I got further along in the painting process. I was so grateful I had taken the time outside of the hospital, before coming in, to pray for protection and get myself grounded. This helped me now to stay focused on the message and what I was to paint. The original painting is 8 x 10. I painted quickly, explaining the top half of the heart was off the page, next the horns then the deer and the white rays of light. While painting the yellow I got a smug of green so I took the time to take yellow paint right out of the tube and I got out a new brush, to keep the yellow bright and again I got a green streak. I worked it out to just appear yellow. Over the shining white I had seen what was to be a sheer rainbow of colors. I started with red and ask what next? "GREEN!" was shouted out from the quiet voice inside and I stopped. It had taken three obvious attempts to get this message through to me, but now I got it. Looking up at everyone, I asked, "What does green mean?" Confused faces looked at each other from around the room and then voices rang out, " Jeremy's Truck is green! It was Grandpa Jerry"s old truck. Oh my! Grandpa Jerry must be with him!" It had taken me so many obvious green paint mishaps to get that message right, WOW. Then someone shoved a small drawing in front of me. "Look!" on the drawing was a heart and a big green truck.This they told me was drawn by a young boy; the son of one of Jeremy's friends. I had not seen it before. In the beginning I was told Jeremy was in an ATV(All Terrain Vehicle) accident. The real deer I had seen on my way south and its profound imprint stayed with me before I had even knew; a deer had jumped out and hit Jeremy right off of the 4-wheeler never touching the machine. The deer and Jeremy laid alone on the blacktop road beside each other. The animal died and a friend found Jeremy unresponsive. She preformed CPR keeping him stable until first responders arrived." The accident happened on Friday Nov. 3rd, 2017 at 10;30 pm and Jeremy was taken off life support and passed away on Tuesday November 7th, 2017 Life saving efforts fulfilled Jeremy's wishes to be an organ donor. He went on to save other people's lives and will continue to be in the hearts and memories of all those he knew and loved.
